Hedonistic 1980s New York revisited in new novel – Yahoo News

Conjuring up the hedonistic world of 1980s New York — the endless parties, reckless spending, casual sex and drugs — was the easiest part of US writer Robert Goolrick’s latest novel. The former high-flying advertising executive moved to New York as a young man from small town America and lived out what he saw as a dream. In his just published fourth book "The Fall of Princes" — the story of one man’s rise and fall which he describes as "very much an autobiography" — Goolrick revisits that world."I knew these people, I went to these parties, I did the things my generation did which is essentially to waste an entire decade in the pursuit of pleasure," he told AFP ahead of Festival America, a Paris event celebrating writers from North America."Trips to exotic places, clothes we couldn’t afford, drugs that took all of the money we had left over. And always sex, indiscriminate, the seeking of the most pleasure we could find in our bodies," he said.

Loophole In Audible Lets You Download Unlimited Audio Books Free – Business Insider

A teenager in India has discovered a major loophole in Amazon-owned audio book retailer Audible that allows anyone to download an unlimited amount of audio books for free.

Security flaws in Audible mean the site doesn’t wait to authenticate credit card payments before allowing users to purchase books, meaning that anyone can provide the site with fake information and download an unlimited amount of audio books.

In a video provided to Business Insider, Alan Joseph, a 19-year-old computer science student from Bangalore, India, demonstrated the loophole. Business Insider was able to replicate the technique used by Joseph to download audio books for free.

Using a fake name, fake email address and a fake credit card, users are able to create an account on Audible, and purchase any member program. Business Insider was able to purchase the most expensive membership program, a $229 24-book "Platinum Annual Membership," using fake credit card information.

Amazon listing details new smaller, high-res ‘Voyage’ Kindles

You don’t need supernatural powers to realize that it’s been 12 months since a Kindle Paperwhite refresh, ergo we’re due a new one. It also kinda helps when Amazon’s own web-store lets slip a little bit of info. Some eager searchers spotted a listing for Kindle "Voyage" on Amazon’s German and Japanese stores. The listings don’t have too much information, but do mention a 300 ppi display on the 6-inch device that comes in the usual WiFi and 3G versions.

50-year-old backlist resurrected in new POD deal | The Bookseller

F+W International will publish the backlist of its David & Charles imprint through a new print-on-demand partnership with Ingram.

The books will be released under a new imprint, D&C Heritage, with F+W International looking to resurrect titles going back to David & Charles’ founding in 1961. The publisher focused on a range of hobbies and niche areas, releasing a range of titles on Britain’s canals and railways. After its purchase by F+W in 2001, it focused on crafts and creative arts publishing, alongside F+W’s direct-to-consumer e-commerce businesses.

F+W International m.d. James Woollam said it would now be looking for authors and contributors to old titles to come forward and help update the publisher’s records, as well as claim royalties.
