Philip Roth to Be Honored With Yaddo Medal – NYTimes.com – NYTimes.com

Yaddo, the artists’ colony in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., has chosen the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Philip Roth to be the first recipient of a new medal it is awarding artists.

Mr. Roth has had seven residencies at Yaddo to work on his writing, beginning in 1964. “It’s a great pleasure for us to begin a new tradition by presenting Philip Roth with the inaugural Yaddo Artist Medal,” said Elaina Richardson, Yaddo’s president.  The medal, which was designed by the artist James Siena, will be presented to Mr. Roth on May 14, at the colony’s annual fund-raiser in New York City. The writer Alison Lurie will introduce Mr. Roth.
